Sustainable development means encouraging economic growth while protecting the environment and improving our quality of life - all without affecting the ability of future generations to do the same.

 

In terms of sustainability, the NSQ website points out the Joint Core Strategy reinforces the need to make the best use of underused developed land, before looking at other undeveloped areas to meet the town’s growing needs. It may be worth pointing out here that the site is not underused. In fact nearly every warehouse is a sustainable business which encourages economic growth and that the estate has flourished within a recession to provide community-related facilities.

 

Santon currently plans to make it easier to walk rather than drive as a key design principle of the development, ensuring street design will provide good sight lines and pleasant environments for those who walk, rather than prioritising vehicles. This seems like a very logical idea and will be interesting to see how it is integrated with the proposed multi-story car park for 500 cars.
