PHOENIX DEVELOPMENT LEWES
ECOLOGY:
There are many questions still to be answered over Santon's ecological philosophy. Their NSQ website paints a beautiful picture of an ecological development with many key environment concepts and pictures of wildlife. It is important that as the final plans come out this is fully considered and more than politically correct jargon.
NSQ website states: “Santon’s philosophy for improved sustainability is simply “use less first”: high levels of insulation, green roofs, minimised air leakage, all of which increase the efficiency of the buildings and reduce the need for bolt-on “eco-bling” such as wind power or solar panels. This all helps to achieve an environmentally sustainable place.”
Ecologists might argue that solar panels are not 'eco-bling' and pouring tonnes of concrete over everything to raise the site to East Street level does not sit well with a commitment to the environment.
